Wangaratta Education Seminar

Aspiring teachers were shown the pathway to a fulfilling teaching career at an Education Seminar at Country Universities Centre Ovens Murray in Wangaratta recently.

A panel of education experts shared their knowledge and passion for teaching. Dr Steve Murphy from La Trobe University, Trish Briggs from Charles Sturt University and Fiona Corish from GOTAFE explained the huge range of avenues into teaching. A career in education can start anywhere and the panelists made it easy to understand how to get there.

Our future teachers discovered what a day in the life of an educator looks like and how rewarding life as a teacher can be. Dave Armstrong, Executive Principal at Wangaratta High School, Kristy Mullins, Principal at Wangaratta West Primary School, and Jade Salmon, Early Childhood Coordinator at Rural City of Wangaratta shared their journeys as educators and the places around the world teaching has taken them.

The panel had tips and tricks about how to apply for a teaching role, what they are looking for in new teachers and how to stand out from the crowd. They encouraged the audience to follow their interests and passions, demonstrating the opportunities teachers have to learn new skills and share these with their students.

For people curious about a career in teaching, it was a great opportunity to hear about how to go about it. For those already studying education, it gave them a leg up when applying for jobs and allowed them to talk directly with the people who they could be working with. After hearing the inspiring stories from our experts and the insightful questions from our audience, be assured the future of education is bright in North East Victoria.
